What Makes a Good Logo?

Good Logos

Beats Headphones

What makes this a good logo?

It's simplistic and symbolic. Using only two colors and three shapes, even a child would be able to recreate this logo. The "b" inside the red circle can also be interpreted as a minimalist drawing of a headphone, therefore also serving as a symbol for the product.

Jordan's

The logo is probably one of the most iconic ones of our generation and is easily recognizable. While it isn't as simple as the Beats logo, it isn't too chaotic of a design either. It's entirely appropriate for the brand as a large percentage of their products are marketed as basketball shoes. Using only one solid color to create the silhouette makes this logo timeless as it would print well both small and large.

Red Bull

The high contrast in this logo is something which sets it apart from other brands. It has a bit of an edge while still maintaining an aura of professionalism, making it an ideal representation of its brand. The logo is relatively simple without using too much detail.

BAD LOGOS

Olive Garden

This logo is overly complicated with way too many textures, shadows, and gradients and a God awful font. It screams over-design and is not memorable in the least.

Panera Bread

Panera Breads logo looks as if it was designed by a toddler. The color choice is unappealing and lacks contrast. If this logo was printed in black and white it would difficult to distinguish what it what. The font is not appropriate or sophisticated enough for a million dollar company such as this one. Not to mention the lines running through "Panera" are unnecessary and hideous.

Super King Cleaners

I've never heard of this company before and I'm honestly not surprised given how horrible they appear to be at advertising. This logo lacks contrast and is over-designed. The gradients on the scroll are already over the top and make the text blur into its background. The font choice is unprofessional and inappropriate. Overall, a terrible design.
